Probers SayWoman ShotHornefl FlierNEW YORK (AP)—The Federal Bureau of Investigation has re*V iversed a city police theory of mur-der-suicide in the fatal shooting of John Conwell, 25, and charged his pretty sweetheart with murder.Police had said Conwell, a former Air Force pilot, had killed himself early Nov. 9 after critically wounding Lillian Freiberg, 26, who had decided not to marry him on Christmas as they had planned.But Asst. U. S. Atty. Kenneth Sternberg charged Tuesday before U. S. Commissioner Martin C. Epstein that Mi$,s Freiberg killed Conwell and then shot herself three times ifi attempted suicide. Based on an FBI probe, Sternberg said Miss Freiberg then blamed Conwell and told the guard who found her:“John Conwell shot me. I don’t know why.In a wheelchair, Miss Freiberg appeared in white pajamas with a red ribbon in her hair before Commissioner Epstein at the Vet-.erans Administration Hospital in 'Brooklyn where she has been under treatment since the shooting. She was formally charged with homicide. ,f/aiwell's body and Miss Freiberg were found a few feet apart in the parking lojj of the VA hospital where she had worked as a i secretary for fodr years. The FBI took over the case from Brooklyn police because the shooting took place on federal property. Authorities said Conwell haddriven his car from his Hornell,1N. Y.. home to New York to see 1 Miss- Freiberg. The couple had met about a year and a half ago when Mis9 Freiberg visited friendsat Randolph Air Force Base, Tex.,1 where Conwell was stationed. I
