June 0. when William Dixon and Edward Bloctner lost their lives, were taken before the circuit court, this afteruoou to receive their sentence from the court, they having been found guilty of manslaughter by a Jury Tuesday last. .They were asked by the court If they had anything to say before sentence was passed upon them. John I* Geher addressed the court for fifteen minutes appealing, not for himself, but for his companions, and he Justified their action as seif defense. He did not care so much for himself as for the wives and children of the miners. With the state prison staring him in the face he csiledon God to witness the innocence of his associates, Hcaihcote and Caddell.Judge Green expressed his regrets at the necessity which compelled him to pass sentence upon them. He commented on the great crime committed, of which the prisoners stand convicted. He complimented the Jury who fixed the penalty and the attorneys who defended Geher and the rest. He called on each prisoner to stand up wiiun lie sentenced him. John L. Geher got five years. Charles Jones five years, Daniel Caddell throe years and John Heath-colo three yea.s at Joiiut.The court room was crowded full of peo-plo, atuoug them many ladies, families of the convicted rioters. The ladies were most all sobbing while Geher was making his remarks and the Judge was passing sen Leticu on them.' Thu many friends of the convicted oues shook hands with thorn.Daniel Johnson pleaded guilty for larceny aud was sentenced to Joliet for one year.
