testified they were awakened when the air conditioner was knocked out of the window.Mantel told the court that he saw flames from what he thought was a hand gun and then felt a “bee sting.” He said he watched the person who shot him for about 15 seconds.Ms. Roberts told the court that after she heard the air conditioner fall she curled up in the bed. She said a voice that sounded like Roberts’said, “I got you now,” and thenshots were fired.After the shooting, Ms. Roberts said she went through the house to check on her children. She was wounded in the left wrist, but said she did not realize she was injured.Ms. Roberts also told the court there was a possibility Roberts did not know they were divorced when the shooting occurred. Copies of the divorce papers were sent to Michigan officials while Roberts was being held there awaiting extradition to Ohio on the grand theft charges.Roberts was released by Michigan officials and reportedly never received the divorce papers, which were returned to Ms. Roberts’ lawyer.After his release from custody in Michigan, Roberts allegedly returned to the Sandusky area and shot his ex-wife and Mantel. Roberts was apprehended in Fort Wayne, Ind., Nov. 5 on federal fugitive warrant.
