Watkins (R-Utah), who headed a special committee that recommended McCarthy be censured, said yesterday he doubts the recess “will have any effect on the final result.” Speaking on a recorded program telecast from New York, he said the censure debate lull may “cool off some of the people who have been emotion-1Virgil Shannon pleaded not guilty as charged to burglary in the second degree when he appeared for preliminary hearing before Peace Justice Percy Armstrong Monday. Bond was set at $3,000, Shannon committed to the county jail in lieu of bond, and the case against him transcribed to district court.Shannon faces trial in district court on the charge filed following his alleged burglary of the E. S. Mulliniks general merchandise store, 14 miles northwest of Ada on SH 59-A on November 27, 1952.Shannon was arrested last week by county officials when he returned here from somewhere in California.He is accused of taking a large assortment of items from the store, including several cases of canned goods, vegetables, packaged cereals, wash tubs, coffee, four sacks of flour, two teddy bears, two big dolls, cigarettes and candy bars.
