WOOD DREW EIOHTYEARS; SI,000 FINEAymer Dnvis of Eldora, Died aa a Result of Gunshot.All Iowa Falls Youth Given Ten Years in State Reformatory for Stealing an Automobile.Carlton Wood, a resident of Austin, Minnesota, who previous to locating there, was a resident if Hardin county, was given aprison sentence of eight years and a fine of ?1,000 by Judge Clock, Thursday, just before the adjournment of court.The jury that heard the case brought in 'a verdict of manslaughter and this carries with it, the limit, of eight years according to the law; the judge also assessed a monetary cash fine of $1,000.The shooting occurred but a few weeks ago, on the streets of Eldora, where Wood had been in wait for Aymer Davis, an Eldora attorney, who had been connected with an estate case in which Wiood ivas interested. Wood had demanded an accounting, according to the court testimony. He shot Davis whom he had hailed, but Davis procoded on his way without heeding Woods’ demand; so stated. Davis was shot in the left ankle; he wa.s taken to the hospital and for a time it was thought he would be able to recover, but later the physicians concluded that an operation ivas necessary and his foot was removed. Tlie loss of blood could not fce stopped.Davis had been a practicing attorney at Eldora during the past thirty years and more. His age was 58 and he is survived by his wife, two children and other relatives. In his every day life he was steady-going and held the confidence and esteem of the people of all who knew him.
