Suspect brought up on sexual assault chargesBy Allison PollanTimes Staff WriterAnother former Hill Country Youth Ranch employee has been indicted on sexual assaultcharges.Funtane Monyea Francis wasindicted toy ttoe 198th JudicialDistrict grand jury on fivecounts of indecency with a child and for aggravated sexual assault of a child.Francis is accused of engaging in sexual contact with three boys, two of whom were younger than 17 and one younger than 14, in 1994 and 1995.Scott Stehling, HCYRspokesman, said Francis worked at the youth ranch from 1994 until he was suspended after the allegations arose in July 1997 and has been off the campus since. Stehling said he believed Francis had been sent a termination notice.Francis is the second former HCYR employee in four months to be indicted on sexual assault charges. Former youth ranch employee Mark Shellenbergerwas indicted July 3, 1997, onaggravated sexual assault and indecency charges with three males between the ages of seven and 13 years.“The Youth Ranch has always taken steps to prevent problems like this but apparently this is a problem in children’s homes throughout the state right now,” Stehling said. “Even in the past we had systems in place.
