Adams Ar-31 rests Him Today on East Fifth Street— Was Heavily Armed—Burglars’ Tools Captured—Police Had Been Watching Him For Several Days.Dally, 13th.The local police are making a record fchis month and today added another good catch to their list. Howard Clark was arrested at noon today on a charge of doing the safe*cracking which has been so prevalent in Louisville for the past month. Hardly a night passed that two or three safes were not blown open and the Louisville police were completely at sea and could not get the slightest clew to the safe-blowers.Capt. Adams came to their rescue today. About a month ago Clark came to this city and engaged board at Mrs.Short's house on East Fifth, near Water•street. For several days the police have been watching his movements and as ■ certained that he left his boardirg house every night and returned in the morning and generally slept all day. His excuse for being up at night was that he was a gambler. His actions were mysterious and Detective Tom Maher, of Louisville, was called over. He had arrested a colored man in Louisville who gave his name as Vance Smith. He confessed he had be en assisting in the safe cracking and that his partner was a white man named Clark. Smith was brought and left at the police station under guard, while Detective Maher and Capt. Adams went to Mrs. Short’s house. Mrs. Short told them her boarder had been out all night and they asked to see him.Clark came down stairs and turned several colors when he saw the officers. He claimed his name was Wilson but finally admitted it was Clark but denied doing any safe-robbing. In his room were found two revolvers with 150 rounds of ammunition, a fine watch and $3 in pennies. Clark was taken to the police station and as soon as the colored man saw him he said he was the right man. Clark gave Smith a stony glare and claimed he had never seen him before. Both men were taken to Louisville this afternoon to answer for their crimes. A fine kit of burglar’s tools were found this morning in Louisville, where they had been hidden by the safe blowers.u/iTurvocuf ronu tuc /'luidpu
