McVey, 21, Carthage, driver of the car, sustained moderate injuries.Police said the southbound Parcell pickup and the westbound McVey car collided■ Three people were injured in a three-vehicle accident at 8:49 a.m. Friday at Seventh Street and St. Louis Avenue, police said.Peter Ottolini, 35, 721 W. 31st St., driver of a car, sustained minor injuries.Also sustaining minor injuries were Rhonda E. Moran, 22, 401 S. Park Ave., driver of a pickup, and Stephen P Moser Jr., 28, Webb City.Police said the westbound Moran pickup was struck from behind by the Ottolini car. The impact knocked the pickup into the rear of the Moser car.Judge sentences two defendants in caseCARTHAGE, Mo. — Two men charged with assault in what police called a case of mistaken identity have been sentenced to prison terms.Patrick W Walker, 24, and Chad McMillen, 20, were sentenced Friday by Judge Ion Dermott in Jasper County Circuit Court. Each was sentenced to three years in prison Walker, West Fork, Ark., formerly of Carthage, and McMillen. 42 Fir Lane, Carthage, are to be considered for probation during the first 120 days of tneir incarceration. A report on their behavior and a recommendation on probation is to be returned to the court within that time.The men, originally charged withfirst-degree assault, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in the beating of Leonel Cifuenies on June 23. Cifuenies was lured to a rural location southeast of Carthage and was beaten with baseball bats. Six young adults and two juveniles were arrested in the case; they said they sought out Cifuenies because they believed he had raped a 14-year-old friend of theirs the previous day.Police already had a suspect in custody. Francisco Vega has been charged with first-degree rape and is awaiting trial in January in Stone County on a change of venue.All of the defendants have pleaded guilty.
