An employe of the bar had been charged with as^saulting Ventura.Ventura, 28, of 101 East LibertySt., suffered brain injuries after he was allegedly attacked by Thomas David St. Charles, 28, of 62 Liberty Ave., Danbury.St. Charles, a karate expert, has fceen charged with first degree assault and is awaiting action of the Putnam County grand jury. He has been released in $20,000 bail.The fight on Oct, 30 reportedly stemmed from an argument over a woman at the tavern.St. Charles was employed by the fear to check the ages of patrons, according to state police. He is a former barbershop owner and became involved in karate about 1063.St. Charles holds a third degree black belt and won the black belt freestyle and black belt form competition, as well as the Grand Champion Trophy at the United States National Korean Karate Championship at the Danbury War Memorial last year.He operated the I Cho Chuan School of Karate, also known as the St. Charles Karate Institute, both at 205 Main St.Ventura was bom in Pisao Castan-heirade Pera, Portugal, June 28, 1943, son of Henrique and Maria Lopesn Ventura of Portugal.He had been a resident of this community for the past year and was a member of St. Peter's Church. He was employed at the E, Paul Kovacs Construction Co. and was a member of the local Hodcarriers Union.Besides his wife, the former Man*t-ela Alves, he leaves a daughter, Am Paula of Danbury; four brothers, Manuel, Jose and Alcides, all of Germany, and Alfonso of Portugal; six sisters, the Misses Felsmina, Helene, Yvonne and Maria Ventura, aTi of Portugal, and the Misses Nazarei and Arlette Ventura, both of Ger ! many, as well as several nieces and nephews., The funeral was held from the John C. Freeland Funeral Home, 91 West St, Tuesday and at St. Peter's Church for a Mass of the Resurrection.Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery.
