IR (D- Two Mexican cousins were quoted by police today at challenging a statement of Arthur Torrance that hit wealthy and elderlv bride had been hurled from their motor car in the wreck which preceded her death.Torrance. 54 years old. dragged her from the wrecked machine and pulled her six feet before anyone could reach him. the cousins testified.Ancel de Puentes, undertaker, said Torrance came to his establishment at 2 P M. Sunday. November 9. the day after the accident. and said he wished to have his wife buried at 0 A. M Monday. iOn the eve of the scheduled exhumation today of the body ofMrs. Torrance, R7. formerly Mrs.Ada Loveland of Kalamazoo. Mich , officers said they obtained a sworn statement from the two cousins. Antonio Cantu Garza and Ismael Cantu Oarza. This statement said the cousins arrived at the scene of the accident about 7 P. M. and saw Torrnnee pulling his wife out of the front seat of the car. The motor was running and the headlights were turned on.Ismael Cantu Gar/a swore that he next saw Torrance place his wife hack into the car and drive off with her. The cousins added that they followed Torrance to a filling station, where they noticed a quart vacuum bottle on the floor of the car.Ismael said he saw a policeman pick it up. hut that Torrance grabbed it and put it back on the floor.Police quoted Torrance as saving during their investigation that his bride was thrown clear of the car and had apparently hit her head on the rear-view mirror.The prosecution charges Torrance struck her with a vacuum bottle. IR (p)—Police revealed today that they had found four $50 traveler's checks on the person of Arthur Torrance w’hich had been bought by his wealthy, elderly bride before theirmarriage. fEvaristo Garcia, assistant chief of police, said the checks bore an en- s dorsement: “Ada C.
