Jury assesses death penally for girl’s killing■AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — Potter County jurors have sentenced a 27-year-old man to death for drowning a 5-year-old girl he forced into his home and possibly sexually assaulted.Robert James Anderson showed little emotion Monday when he heard his punishment. It had taken the jury only a few minutes last week to convict Anderson of capital murder.Testimony showed Anderson in June 1992 forced Audra Ann Reeves into his house, where he choked her, hit her with a pipe and stabbed her with a longbar-becue fork. Testimony included evidence of sexual assault on the girl, whose head was held under bathwater until she drowned.Audra’s body was found inside an ice chest, dumped in a trash bin.Defense attorney Warren Clark pleaded for leniency because, he said, Anderson was mentally ill and could not control his actions.Anderson had written a letter saying he killed a girl he did not know because he was angry at his ex-wife.
