■.'.'/(•I Ix toft 6MmIliiiiilMiGloucesterHusky Boston Man Stops theGLOUCESTER, Nov 17—Mayor Wheeler and Alex Chisholm, a wholesale fish dealer, had a fist fteht on Main st, near Chestnut, this morning, which was stopped by Alfred Adams of 6 Wood-side av, Roxbury, using strong measures to compel Chisholm to “lay off.” The affair grew out of some remarks of the Mayor at: a recent meeting of the Gilbert Club at West Gloucester, when, alluding to the new High Schooi Building, he quoted a well-known citizen that the late Capt John Chisholm, without a high school education, came to this city and accumulated a fortune of $260,000, which his sen Alex squandered.This remark aroused Alex Chisholm’s resentment. Early this morning the two men met on Main st and according to the Mayor, Chisholm said:“Why did you make derogatory remarks about my father at that supper?**T • Mayor said, “Let me explain/* “There can be no explanation/* Chisholm* is alleged to have said. “I’m going to beat you up for slandering my father.'*At that Chisholm took off his over and undercoat and sailed into the Mayor. Both are husky, although the Mayor is 62. f Chisholm landed a blow on the left cheek bone and another on the jaw. Wheeler hit Chisholm on the mouth, but the Mayor was getting the worst of the argument, when along came Adams. He is what the sporting men would call q. “husky guy/’ all right.He came out of a store across the street.“I saw a young fellow beating up an old man/* said Adams, “and I could not stand for that, so I went across and tried to stop it. Chisholm turned on me and hit me a crack in the face/* Then, according to onlookers, Adams un limbered. He rained in a shower ofBlows on Chisholm and soon had him helpless, his face being a mass of blood. Then the police interfered.A warrant for assault and battery has been sworn out against Chisholm.Adams said he had no idea whom he was defending.
