BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.The Last of the Hicksville Burglars will Stop with the State—Dime Novels Did it.Twoyears ago, next February, Ira Ging-ery’B store at Hicksville was robbed of about eight hundred dollars worth ot goods. A gang of dime novel readers waB spotted and Thompson, Kane and Hyde sent to the Penitentiary while u third, Green, is out on parole. Fiizcharles took to his legs and ran away. After a time it was discovered that he w.is in Indian Territory. Mike Bourke, the deputy Sheriff, started after the thief and succeeded in capturing him. The trial began last Wednesday and was only concluded Friday night.Fitzchurles’ counse., Messra Hill, Ht.bbard and Enos, fought over every inch of ground though the odds were against them. A confession made by the prisoner before Prosecutor Winn, \Sheriff Wonderly, and Miss Wineland, was admitted as evidence. Warden Johnson brought up Kane and Hyde to testify, and a number,of witnesses were summoned by the defense to break down Kane’s testimony. The two convicts were not put on the stand.The principal witness was J. E. Coulter who upset much of tb j Prosecutors’ testimony, and brought down on his head the wrath of the Htate’s Attorney. During the whole trial the wife of tLe prisoner sat by his side, while their ne.itdy dressed little two-year old child ran around the court room at willThe case went to the jury late on Friday night. At eight o’clock the next morning they tiled into the KusBell house for breakfast, looking very sleepy. The breakfast seemed to have its lt;ffect for an hour after a verdict of gudty was rendered. The prisoner was arraigned for s -ntence Monday morning. Judge Hutphen gave him five years in the penitentiary. Fiizcharles and Brannett, the Georgetown tough, were taken to Columbus, Tuesday.Fitzcharles’ wife broke completely down when the sentence was pronounced but he did not shed any tears until out of doors.Prosecutor Winn may well feel proud of his work in the Hicksville case, as by his untiring energy nil the guilty ones have been brought to justice Fitzcharles completed the list
