LeRoy Stockdale admits guilt in Virgil Miller's death“Guilty*’ said LeRoy Richard Stockdale as he was arraigned Monday in superior court for the murder of Virgil Frederick Moeller Sept. 12 in the Diamond Springs hotel bar. District at-lomey Terry Finney conceded that it was murder in the second degree.The punishment for second degree murder is five years to life in prison, judge Robert E. Roberts told the 55 year old defendant from Diamond Springs. Stockdale applied for probation through his counsel, public defender Mike Tarlton.who said this “could be an unusual case where probation is applicable/*The matter was referred to deputy probation officer Bob Billingsley for a report, to be submitted before Dec. 3, the date set for sentencing.Stockdale. who is estranged from his Wife Sylvia, killed Moeiler. a 48-year old El Dorado businessman, with a single shot fired through the door of the tavern with a shotgun in the apparent beliefhe was shooting at a rival.The victim had been in the process of winding down his aff airs here and was planning to join his wife in Ruport. Idaho. After dinner in the hotel dining room that night. Moeller stopped at the bar where Mrs. Stockdale was another customer.After the shooting, according to sheriff Ernest Carlson. Stockdale forced his wife to accompany him to his home on Pleasant Valley road and held her captive until surrendering himself to sheriff's deputies
