I^ewis got the clue to Bartley’s whereabouts and found where he was staying In St. Louis. Two Sf Ixuiis detectives claimed the who!# reward, ignoring Lewis completely. The county board of supervisors could not decide who was entitled to receive the money and at last put the matter in the hands of Sate* Attorney GHIham to settie it. ie decided that Lewis, who gave the information was entitled to share the reward with the St. Louis officers and accordingly remitted ^alf the sum to the Alton policeman.
