“With my father, Edward Wilcox, and two brothers, I had been engaged in making staves in Hell county, Ky., and was on my way to my home in Claiborne county, Tenn., on October 13, last. I was going through Lee county, Ya..onfoot, and when near Gibson Station, I met young Gibson. He was L riding in a wagon with another man. I was carrying a 38-Win-Chester on my shoulders and acrossthe gun hung my shoes.“When I met the men in the wagon I said, ‘Howdy do, sirr’ Neither of the men made any reply and I shouted pretty loud,‘Howdy do?’“ ‘You needn’t think because youmhave got a gun you can bluff me,replied Gibson.“I answered, ‘1 dont want to bluff you.’ At that he jumpedfrom the wagon and caught hold of the gun.
