A mob that was dis-persed Sunday morning is expected at any moment to roappoar at the jail and attempt to lynch the negro Forbes. That such an attompt will bo made there is no doubt. The jail is well guarded, and tho efforts of tho jail officials to protect the prisoner will be reinforced by hundreds of negroes should the attempt at lynching be made. Ernest Forbes was lodged in jail Friday, charged with outraging Bertha Phipps, a fifteen-year-old girl living near West River. The assault was committed on Thursday, the girl being terribly maltreated. Forbes was not captured until the following day. At the time of bis capture Forbes was twice shot at, and one ball lodged in his back.Threats of lynching were freely made and Saturday night Sheriff Armiger decided to secretly remove Forbes to theby detectivesNewark.
