a way to win popular support, iast week8Occurred 25 Years AgoFred Lutzy MurderStill County MysteryA Green County murder, covered 25 years ago today, has never been solved.dis-stillFred Lutzy, a 55-year-old recluse and a native of Switzerland, was found dead Nov. 12. 1931. in his two-room shack, three miles west of Monticello near the Washington Town Hall. He had been murdered the night before, with a bullet through his chest.Lutzy was found slumped in a chair the next morning by Wilbert Flint and Robert Bundle, Argyle vicinity. They had gone there to inquire about a horse left for treatment. Lutzy often treated animals with home remedies.Dr O. S. Blum, Monticello physician now in Florida, at first thought death was due to natural causes. The late FredW. Voegeli. Monticello undertaker, found the bullet woundThe man was clothed in three pair of overalls, two pairs of underwear and several shirts.A coroner’s .jury returned a verdict of murder. On the jury were Fred \V Voegeli, Art Holcomb. Edward Hefty, Albert Moritz, Anton Hefty and Gerrit Kooreman, all of MonticelloMyron West, now of Sarona, was sheriff, and Randall J. Elmer, district attorney. During that same year, Elmer also was faced with a kidnapping, that of the late F. J. Blumer.That was the only “case” murder during Elmer’s term office, but it really “wasn't case. I only prosecuted after the officers apprehended, then it becomes my case.
