A Loganspori man with -a po*. lice- re cord; was shot .and critically wounded about 11 a.m. Tuesday following a' running gun-battle, in the city’s eastend.-Elmer Howard,- 28, of 500 Bartlett St., shot in the left mid-back, was listed.-in-- critical con-dition-at 2 p.m. by- hospital-authorities. .City 'police officers said they ; first:received- a.call at-20;a;m.about a man “acting funny” on the. lawn; of-the; St. ■ Joseph Hospital: Police .were told ;that the man, later Identified: as :Howard,... bn-his :knees 'doing,front lawn:' Hi thevhospital.■■?]*: _______oifiicem .were dispatched to the .scene.-and brought. the: man to the policestation 'for questioning., -Officers said, the man :• acted intoxicated, but’that .there was no,: odor: of alcohol on his bMth and' they decided to take tte.'toai'hbmev; ■Officers took -the man to 1431 Spear 'St which he said-was'his ■' home,- but; while returning, tcf the station, officers again-saw How-- ard ; walking -v along- Market Street. - .: .' tifiicer 'Clyde ‘’Smith said he • and Officer.
