LYNCH SIX NEGROESFive Burned to Death, One Hanged in Florida.Fight Starts at Voting Booth in Qcoto, Near Orlando, on Election Day.Orlando, Flu., Nov. 5,—Five negives have been burned to death and anotherhung to a tree as a result of a tightwhich shifted at the polls nt Ocoee, near here, Tuesday night, after election ollielnls had refused to permit Muse Norman, a negro, to vote 011 the ground that he had failed to pay his poll tax.Two white men were shot and killed and several others, including a former police chief, were wounded in tin* light which preceded the wholesale lynching. The negroes burned, met death In houses in which they lmd congregated and which were fired. The sixth negro killed was taken frotu a jail early in the day by a mob.According to accounts received here Norman left Ihe polls after being refused n vote and returned later with a shotgun in his automobile. He was alleged to have made threats against the election ollielnls and finally was knocked down when he reached for the gun.lie escaped into the negro section, where it was reported the negroes were gathered in crowds. Later, when an attempt was made, to arrest Norman lire was opened from the house In which the man had taken refuge. Leo Uogard and Elmer McDaniels, white men, were killed.An ntletnpt was made to run the negroes from the house, which finally was fired. One nogco, Jules Perry, was arrested and was later lynched by the mob.
