McCurdy, shot through thehead, dying five hours later.Injured; Constable Jack Dlueen.shot in the left shoulder; ConstableUttley, shot through the right shoulder.The man who k alleged to haveidone the shooting, and got away, signied the hotel register as “John Brownand wife.'* The shooting occurredwhen the four morality officers entered the building in search of liquor.Inspector McCurdy was leading hisjmen. He entered a room, a shot rangout and a moment later a man. carrying a smoking revolver, emerged. HeI opened lire on the rest of the raiding •.party and wounded Dineeu and Uttley.Constable Fred. Causey ,the fourthmember of the party had a narrow \escape when the gunman rushedhim andbulletmining him by inches.followedman and woman fled from the hotcd,the woman, who registered with theslayer disappeared and a round-up ofthe occupants of the hotel rooms netted the police only live prisoners. Theytare being held as material witnesses.
