HACKNEY SUSPECT HELD AFTER CROSS-EXAMINATIONNegro Told Story to Police and Coroner Which Will Be Investigated..John Hackett, the negro who was arrested j by Detectives Pflug and Hueftlein Wednesday night In connection with the murder of Mary Hackney several weeks ago in her home on Canal Ridge, CumrninsvUle* was questioned yesterday by the oncers and Coroner Coe. He was not interrogate very closely, however.It being the policy of the detectives to hold him a little longer before eubjecting him toa severe sweating.The negro is said to have told a story yesterday which win be investigated by the officers today, after which they^wlll cross-question him again. It Is said he has assumed an air of indifference and affects to be little concerned about the eerlouar.lt;ss of the situation. He was taken into the detectives' office yesterday afternoon and asked to tell his story, which he did in a very‘hesitating and faltering manner. He was then taken back to his cell to await the rapid cross-fire examination he will be subjected to today. ;
