He wasquite a young man, in the employ of Cant.Crandall at Tracev Hi Landing, and by Ids pleasant maners bad made many friends.A coroner’s jury was immediagely held, witnesses swore as to the identity of the party who tired the fatal shot clearly living it upon a negro named Janies Allen em-ployed l»v Addison Owens, Esq., and a warrant for his arrest being issued a josse of officers started in search of him. lie was found at bis home upon Mr. Owen’s farm, and a hearing having lieen had be was delivered over to the Sheriff of the county.It is a source of congratulation that considering the amount of shooting, no greater loss of life ensued. ,At one time, it seemed as if the rioting would become general, but it is not be-lieved that there was any desire upon thepart of the white people to destroy life,and as it had 1-een already intimated thefears of the negroes induced nearly all of them to leave the polls as soon as the shooting commenced. Those who desired to remain. saw fit soon to change their minds and Imtake themselvee£to their homes.
