■r. Hilton Settles.It Is understood on excellent authority that Mr. James M. Hilton, who formerly owned the building known as Fairfax hall, has offered a lump sum of money to Messrs. Ellis and Melledge said to be slightly more than the recent verdict awarded them as brokers* commission in the sale of Mr. Hilton’s property. Messrs. Ellis and Melledge have accepted the siime and have withdrawn their application for a new trial.
