ISHOOIS GIRL HE LOVED ON ACCOM JEALOUSYJohn Erble Fired Three Bullets Into the Body of Grace St id foie.Grace Stidfole, the Newberry girl, who was shot at Williamsport on Friday morning, is in a dying condition a the Williamsport hospital and her assailant, John Erble, a steel worker, is under arrest awaiting the result of the girl’s injuries.Fuller particulars of the shooting, mention of which was made in Friday’s Express, when Chief of Police Powers was notified of the affair, are as follows:John Erble and Grace Stidfole have been lovers for Beveral yeam, regaTdlees of the fact that Erble has a wife and two children living in Syracuse, N. Y.They had spent the night at a louse on East Canal street, Williamsport, and it was about 8.30 o’clock Friday morning when they started for the house kept by Marne Irvin, where Mies Stidfole was an inmate. As they walked up the railroad track they were noticed by some workmen to be quarreling. They passed around to the rear of the Irvin house, anJ not being able to gain admittance, went to the front door.The only eyewitness of the shooting was Mrs. Annie Klump, whose residence is an extension of the Irvin house. She did not see the first shot fired, but being at work in the kitchen, heard it. Before the second shot was fired, the door of her kitchen was thrust open and Grace Stidfole, blood streaming from a wound in her breast, burst into the room aud like a hunted thing sought refuge ia its far corner. Erble entered after her, with his smoking revolver still leveled, and without a word of reply to the plea of the girl for mercy, shot her again as she staggered through the door. To Mrs. Flump he paid no attention.Mrs. Flump says Erble’s face was white and drawn and there was a glare in his eyes. Otherwise he appeared perfectly cool, not even evidencing any excitement when the girl lay moaning in the canal bed. When Bhe burst into the kitchen the Stidfole girl cried out that she was shot and pleaded for aid from Mrs. Klump. Mrs. Klump is an old lady and before she realized what was happening the second Bhot had been fired and the gunman was sauntering down the tracks with never a backward glance.Chief of Police Harder at onco called ont all the night men and the man hnnt began. .Officer William A. Berry learned that Erble was seen on Arch street and was at that time walking toward the river.Officer Berry went to the river bank and then walked slowly up the old tow path. When he reached a point a short distance east of the Williamsport boat clnb house he saw Erble in the bushes between the towpath and the river. About the same time Erble saw the officer, who was in citizen’s clothes, and at once pulled his revolver and prepared to fight. However, he seemed to take second thought and put his revolver in his pocket. Offiicer Berry then took him to City Hall and locked him up in a cell.
