Robbers Hit TwoClubs for S3,400Hold-up Men Use Guns to Threaten Employes in Bold Daylight Forays of BarsWithin three hours yesterday afternoon, two Reno bars ' were held'up at gun point at a net loss of about $3,400,Two men participated in each holdup, and it is believed the same two committed both crimes.First robbery occurred about 3:30 p. m. at Charlie's Cocktail Lounge, 325 S. Virginia St. Police were notified that two men entered the place separately and took seats at opposite ends of the bar. Both ordered drinks. Suddenly both produced .45-caliber automatics and announced that a holdup was inprogress.Six persons were in the bar at the time, including the owner, Charlie Frisch, and the b2Ttendert Ray White, One cf the gunmen approached Mr. Frisch after looting the cash register and nearby drawers of some SI 600, and took an additional $400 from him. The bandits left by the front door, locked it from the outside, and true to promise left the keys near the back entrance. Before leaving, one of the men produced a phors from a brief case he was carrying and snipped telephone wires- behind the bar.The alarm was given within a few minutes of the men’s leaving, but no one had any information whether the* pair travelled by car or on foot.At 6:35 p. m., two men entered the U. S. 40 Tavern, 640 E. Fourth St., produced guns and trained them on the bartender, Walter Poncino, and a number of patrons at the bar.“This is a stickup and don’t any of you move and none of you will get hurt ” one of the men is quoted as saying. “AH we want is the money in the cash register/’Jumps Over Bar While one of the pair kept the group in the bar covered, the other gunman jumped over the bar and made Poncino open the till. The rnan got between $1,200 and $) ,400 in cash and currency, police were told. The receiver was then pulled from a telephone, destroying communications, and the two left. In the U. S. 40 cafe incident, police were told the two got imo a dark green automobile and drove away. •The large amount of money stolen at each place was to be , used for the usual cashing of Fri-| day paychecks, police were told., Meager descriptions of the two I gunmen v. ere obtained, but seemed to tally in both cases., * -The four arc Earl Roberts and John Joseph Murray of Gabhs, and Mr. and Mrs. „ Walter Kiser of Mina. All are free on bail, Roberts' bail being set at $5,000 and that of the other three at $2,500 each.Judge Blacklock reached no decision following the hearing inHawthorne and has ten days inwhich to decide whether the fourwill be bound over to district court. Chaffee, 49 of Reno Kc was not held following the accident.
