Kerns Pleads Self Defense At Murder TrialBy BOBBIE CONRAD A plea of self-defense was entered by attorneys for Perry P. Kerns, 7* year-old Cross Junction man cnarged with murder, as his trial got underway in FrederickCounty Circuit Court this morning The Commonwealth asks a verdict of homicide, with the jury to decide the degree.Kerns is charged with the shotgun death of his neighbor, Silas Luttrell, 46, which is alleged to have occurred in the Kern*, house at the intersection of Routes 693 and 600 about 34 miles north of Cross Junction on Aug 4.J. Sloan Kuykendall and Peter McKee represent Kerns. Joseph A Massie, Jr., Commonwealth's Attorney for Frederick County, is prosecuting the case. Judge El-(Continued on Page I. Col. 1)
