Mike Houlihan Residence IsScene Of DestructiveBlazeLANE. Nov. 7.—(Special )—The farmhome occupied by the Mike Houlihan family three miles south of Lane burned to the ground Tuesday afternoon.The fire is thought to have started from a defective chimney as it started around the chimney on the ceiling of an upstairs room.Mr, Houlihan was in Lane and only his wife and one grown daughter and a four-year-old boy were at home. They had no telephone so it was necessary to run three-quarters of a mile to a neighbor’s house to spread the alarm. Many men were aw?ay from their homesbut firemen from Lane hurried out and! were aided by other volunteers.The fire fighters were handicapped by lack of water as the well had gone nearly dry last summer so about all that could he done was to move out all the J furniture, clothing, bedding and other! possessions. This was nearly all saved. IThe family has moved to a vacant! farm house adjoining their farm, owned by J. J. Hill. The house that burned | was a fine large structure, also owned I by Mr, Hill and w as not protected by I insurance. IThe family’s winter supply of potatoes j and other food, which was stored in the I basement, was not saved. IHOSTESS AT MEETINGWESSINGTON.
