FOUR KILLED IN KENTUCKY VOTING RIOTSHeavy Vote Reported With Congress Holding InterestLouisville, Ky,, Nov. 4 (/p)— Four men were killed and another wounded in widely scattered election rows ia Kentucky today as ballots were cast for United States Senator and Representatives. .....While the conLest' for the Senate was intense and a hard fight, was waged in several Congressional precincts, no reports indicated an unusually heavy vote. Tabulation will not be started until tomorrow under a new law designed to purify the ballot.Generally the voting wag beav-- lest in those congressional districts where contests were waged for seats in the lower house and in four districts congressional candidates who had no chance wore sacrificed like chess pawns in an effort to win the Senatorial fight. -Face Defeat WithdrawRepublican candidates withdrew in the first, second and Lblrd districts, prevailed upon by party leaders who knew they had little or no chance in those Democratic strongholds and who hoped thus to keep down the Democratic voto for Senator. In the fifth district, strongly Republican, a Democratic aspirant for congress likewise was sacrificed-to the party’s weal.The weather was generally fair, thus adding to the chances of bringing out the Republican vote in the mountains for John M. A Democratic worker having' reproached a farmer for voting the Republican ticket. Boyd Bingham 40, the election worker, killed- Hampton Smith, 45, farmer and in turn • was shot by the latter’s sou.At Danville Joseph Hayden, a Democratic challenger, shot and killed Ed Donegby, a negro -who came to the polls aunounc-. ing he had heard there was trouble and he proposed to settle It. Hayden was released in $1,000 bond and returned to his duties, several witnesses stating he fired la self defense and beat Doneghy to the draw'.In a quarrel at Elkhorn, In Pike county, Adam Cotter, a former deputy sheriff, was shot, '.but not seriously injured, by Booker Wright.Ward Hatfield, 35 w'as slain in Pike county. Officers arrested Blias Dotson, 50, and said an old quarrel between the two had arisen while they .were working in the election.
