Ocoee and nearby towns thru out the night to prevent a renewal I the clash which is known to have ro suited in the death of two whites and| six negroes at Ocoee Tuesday night*following the attempt of a negro tr vote after being, denied the right on the ground that he had not paid nil poll tax.•ELECTION RIOT AT ORLANDOAND VICINITY WAS SERIOUSOrlando, Fla., Nov. 4.—The full casualty list at Ocoee, twelve miles from here, where two whites wereshot to death and one negro lynched Tuesday in an election riot and several other negroes perished when the buildings In which they sought shelter were burned, had not reached here last night.Armed whites were reported pa trolling the region and closing in on negroes who fled to the woods, the pursuit being accompanied by intermittent firingMore than twenty buildings in thenegro settlement were burned.Reports from Ocoee last night said that explosion* of considerable amounts of ammunition occured as the flames swept the buildings and that numerous firearms were found In the ruins later.Some reports said five negroe i died in the flames. One negro woman was among these, it .vas said, but no children.The battle was precipitated by the attempt of July Perry, a negro, to vote after he had been refused the privilege by election Judges on the ground that ho had not paid his poll tax. lie returned later armed with u shotgun, but it was taken from him and he was driven away.After dark Tuesday night, according to reports from the scene, Perry again approached the polls accompanied by a number of other negroes.(Contirued on page 6)
