TAVERN FIGHT,MANSHOTDEAD►!r;1_ iBy Michael SorkiitA Des Moines man was shot►to death in a southeast side tavern Monday night and another man, who was wounded in the incident, was being held for questioning.Police identified—the dead man as Gerald LeKoy Hamilton, 32, of 720 Twentieth st. Officers said he was shot at least three times in the chest with a small caliber weapon.James Brassfield, 28, of 1607 Dean ave,, who was shot twice In the right arm, was being questioned by authorities at Iowa Lutheran Hospital where he was hospitalized Monday night.Police said the shootings apparently were the result of a quarrel between the two men shortly before 8 p.m. at Sandy’s Bar, 2102 S.E. Fourteenth st.One witness said the men argued and then went outside the bar where they grappled with a beer bottle.Police said Hamilton left the bar and went home after the argument.Hamilton’s wife, Barbara,told .police he entered theirapartment about 8 p.m. and grabbed a rifle.Police said Hamilton then went back to the bar. The shooting started in front ofthe bar, officers said.Mrs., Gene Naomi, who was inside the bar, said Hamilton then came inside the bar and followed Brassfield. into a restroom. The two yelled at each other, fought over the rifle, and then there was shooting, said Mrs. Naomi.Chief of Detectives, Cleatus Learning, who headed the investigation, said a .22-caiiber rifle and a .25-caliber revolver were found later in the bar.
