AllawayAwalts Hospital ChoiceBy LARRY WELBORN Register Staff WriterSANTA ANA — The prosecutor and the defense attorney in the Edward Charles Allaway murder case both said Wednesday it is not likely AUa-way will be released from a state mental hospital in the foreseeable future,Allaway, 38, of Anaheim, was found innocent by reason of insanity Wednesday for the shooting deaths of seven persons at Cal State Fullerton July 12, 1976.Superior Court Judge Robert Knee-land ruled that Allaway did not understand what he was doing during the five-minute shooting spree, which also resulted in two others being wounded.Kneel and declined to comment to reporters this morning about his Wednesday decision.Prosecutor James Enright said he did not think Allaway would be released soon from a mental hospital, although state law requires that he be entitled to a hearing within 90 days to determine if he presently is sane. He also will be entitled to similar hearings once a year.The test applied at those hearings will be “Is he no longer a danger to society or himself?” If a judge or jury decides he is not a danger, Alla-way will be freed.Allaway’s immediate future will be decided Nov. 16, when Kneeland is to review a report by psychiatrist Dr.' E.
