CoiiiaijciiuH Crabtree,Denison, Tex., Oct. 29.—A farmer name Crabtree had a peculiar experience with would-be footpads. Mr. Crabtree had been in the city with a load of produce, and started home in his wagon, and when about a mile and a half west of town, on the Preston Ilund road, two mep_ ono whiteand the other a negro, ordered him tostop. The both had guns, but they could not stop Mr. Crabtree. He didn't have any pressing business in that part of the country just then, and instead of stopping, ho whipped up his horses and started at a faster gait, i The white man attempted to get In the wagon, but Mr. Crabtree took his driving whip, the end of which was loaded with lead, and struck the man on the head. He fell off the wagon, and the negro struck Mr. Crabtree on the head with a pistol; then the white man came back at Mr. Crabtree and the two men assaulted him, striking him over the head with #heir pistols,Ibut made no attempt to shoot him till Mr. Crabtree knocked the- white man off the wagon the second time, when he fired two shots at the old gentleman, neither of which took effect. The negro attempted to get at the farmer. He placed his pistol very near Mr. Crabtree’s side and fired. The bullet , entered his coat and passed through i his shirt and vest, blistering the skin ■ on his abdomen, but doing no further damage. With a final heavy blow on I the head, the negro fell off the wagon ) and did not renew the attack.
