Conflicting statements in shooting told officersA 20-year-old man was wounded in a shooting apparently sparked by a bad drug deal late Thursday night, according to Yuma police.Police said Bart A. Supplee, 20, 1165 E. 26th Place, was shot between the shoulder blades near his spine. He was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was reported in guarded condition this morning.Investigators were still piecing together the details today to determine exactly what happened. Witnesses have provided conflicting statements with inconsistent details to officers. The shooting was reported shortly before midnight when the hospital called the police department to report it. Police said Supplee was taken to the hospital hy other youths. At the hospital, officers were told that the shooting occurred in Jackrabbit Pass, an area west of Avenue A and south of County 12th Street. Officers searched the desert area but found nothing to indicate there was a shooting there.Later, the witnesses said the shooting occurred in the 300 block of 27th Street. That wasn’t the correct place either, according to police, who finally determined it actually occurred west of 4th Avenue near 26th Street.Police believe that an arson of a pickup truck parked on Fern Drive also may have something to do with the shooting. Police said a rag was stuffed into the gasoline tank filler tube of truck and set afire. The fire did no damage to the 1985 Chevrolet pickup, that was leased and owned by a company in Colorado. However, police said the truck had been involved in a traffic crash a short time before the fire was set.Nobody had been arrested as of press time.
