J. Mitchell called the meeting to order.After stating the object of the call, which was to correct certain rumors affecting the reputations of Randal J. Mitchell, J. C. Few and ( has. Rice, as well as that of the whole hoard, set afloat by Rev. R. R. Downs and other preachers,'the following resolution was offered by Jackson Hamilton.Ht'tohrri. That the hoard of trustees of the Clay street colored school tender R. J. Mitchell, J. C. Few and•Charles Rice their hearty thanks forwthe purchase of our school lot. the financial aid which they have given in the erection of the school building, and the generous contributions whichthey have made from time to time for •the school house, also for the fairnessand honest intention shown on theirpart, in making to us a deed of trustfor the patrons of this school.AVWrnf, That the failure to havesaid deed of trust recorded, was not anintention on their part to defraud thepublic and patrons of this school, buta delay on the part of the hoard oftrustees, because Ihov did not have * *suflicieut money to spare from the expense of erecting the school building. The hoard of trustees have held the deed ever since March 27, 1881); and ho it furtherIli'Mtml, That we denounce as falseand groundless the charges which havebeen made against It. J. Mitchell, J. C. Few and Charles Rice, and we endorse their actions throughout, as regards the management of the school lot.The following was oflered by Mr. Aaron Jones:Whereas, Principal Charles Rice, our building and soliciting agent, has rendered to the patrons of the Clay street school such efficient services in securing funds and pushing forward the business of this hoard of trustees, and sacrificed so much time and money to make a .success of the work.Whereas, Wc have unshaken confidence in his honesty and integrityMr. C.
