President Who t:Dresses as Woman Will Be Arraigned vThe County Grand Jury late yesterday indicted self-admitted transsexual and car promoter Jerry Dean Michael and eight other persons — one of them a Thousand Oaks resident and one from Canoga Park — in connection with an alleged stock fraud scheme involving the Dale automobile.Michael 47, who has dressed as a woman and had gone by the name of Mrs. G. Elizabeth Carmichael the past eight years, will be arraigned today in Dept. 100 of Superior Court before Judge William L. Ritzi.As preuvdem of the 20th Century Motor Car Corp. in Encino, Mrs. Carmichael carried out a nationwide public relations campaign to arouse investor in the Dale, a revolutionary threewheeled car she claimed could get 70 miles to a gallon of gasoline and withstand collisions at 30 miles an hour.The 34-count indictment contained 29 counts of grand theft involving a total of $63,821. It was believed this money came from persons who invested in the Dale Motor Car.Conspiracy AllegedThe indictment also charged the defendants with either selling or attempting to sell securities by means of false statements or fraudulent schemes.A grand jury in Dallas, Tex., has already indicted Michael and some of the same defendants on acharge of conspiracy tocommit grand theft.The 20t.h Century Rioter Car Corp. had been headquartered in Encino but. lat- lcer was moved to Dallas af- h ter Michael reportedly *1 found out he was under in- ^ vestigation by California S authorities. COnly Wednesday, a federal court jury convicted Michael of jumping bail 14 ° •years ago to avoid a n counterfeiting charge. —U.S. Dist. Judge Malcolm M. Lucas set sentencing for June 16. Maximum penalty for the felony is five years imprisonment and a $5000 fine.Civil Suit FiledOn July S. Michael faces trial on the 1961 counterfeiting charge.The Securities and Exchange Commission has also filed a civil suit in federal court in Los Angeles, charging the company with fraud.Michael is being held in isolation in the mens facility at county jail. When he appears in federal court, however, he is allowed to dress as a woman.Michael’s wife Vivian Michael also was among those indicted.Others are:Samuel Schlisman 62. vice president and treasurer of 20th Century, of 6331 Orange St.; Andrew R. Farrell 61, an engineer, of 1858 Berkshire Drive, Thousand Oaks; Edward Comstock (no age), a vice president, of 615 Esplanade, Redondo Beach.Also, Leonard Katz 41. executive vice president and secretary, of S509 Capistrano Ave., Canoga Park; and Jay Gardner, Burton White, and Charles Roh, addresses unknown.They are expected to surrender by Tuesday.
