DISTRIC HURT DOCKETThe Indiana GazetteA Black Lick woman and a West Virginia man are accused of stealing more than $20,000 from the woman’s relatives by forging and cashing credit card convenience checks.Tanya Lynn Short, 33, of Black Lick, and Joshua Zane Cook, 34, of Parkersburg, W.Va., are accused of stealing from credit card accounts belonging to her grandfather and grandmother, Lee Hoover and his late wife, Charlotte.Short is charged by state police with 18 felony counts each of forgery, criminal conspiracy to commit forgery, theft by deception and criminal conspiracy to commit theft by deception from Oct. 7 to Feb 6.Cook is charged by state police with 18 felony counts each of criminal conspiracy to commit forgery, theft by deception and criminal conspiracy to commit theft by deception from Oct. 7 to Feb. 6.According to court documents, Short and Cook used credit cards and convenience checks from Capital One, Discover and Chase Manhattan Bank belonging to the Hoovers.Lee Hoover told investigators that his wife, who has since passed away, would never have authorized Short and Cook to use the cards or cash the convenience checks, which police say were signed by Short and deposited into Cook’s ST Bank account.Preliminary hearings for Short and Cook are scheduled for June 10.Several other defendants have been named on criminal charges filed in the Blairsville district court before Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Rega.Criminal complaints and affidavits of probable cause are not evidence of guilt in a criminal case.Defendants are entitled to legal representation and have the right to question the witnesses and evidence presented against them during preliminary hearings in the district court and at trials in the county court of common pleas.Charged are:■ Jamie Miller, 41, of Bradenville, charged April 3 by Blairsville police wdth harassment, stalking, possession of a small amount of marijuana anddrug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering another person at 11:36 p.m. Dec. 20 at South and North Walnut streets at East Market Street, Blairsville. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10.■ Raldolph Alphonso Holsey, 46, of Blairsville, charged April 9 by Blairsville police wdth DUI, driving wdth a suspended license and a summary traffic violation at 12:15 a.m. Feb. 8 on East Market Street, Blairsville. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 17.■ Amanda C. Saylor, 20, of Johnstowoi, charged April 9 by Blairsville police wdth DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of alcohol by a minor and three summary traffic violations at 11:42 p.m. March 14 on East Market Street, Blairsville. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 24.■ Ryan P. Eldredge, 19, of Akron, Ohio, charged April 9 by Blairsville police wdth resisting arrest, DUI purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of alcohol by a minor and a summary traffic violation at 11 p.m. March 12 on East Market Street, Blairsville. Eldredge waived his right to a preliminary hearing and wdll face the charges in court.■ William Noah White, 28, of Thomasville, Ga., charged April 9 by Blairsville police wdth DUI and two summary vehicle violations at 1:39 a.m. March 15 on East Market Street, Blairsville. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 24.■ James Burkett, 41, of Blairsville, charged April 9 by Blairsville police wdth DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving wdth a suspended license and two summary traffic violations at 2:28 a.m. March 1 at East Market Street and Old Route 22 at Bentley Drive, Blairsville. Burkett waived his right to a preliminary hearing and wdll face the charges in court.■ Stephen Wayne Betts, 52, of Armagh, charged April 9 by state police wdth careless driving and a summary traffic violation at 9:07 p.m. March 8 in West Wheatfieid Township. Prosecutors wdthdrew charges of DUI, and Betts wdll face the remaining charges in court.
