Body found in Fayette not from GilesBy BILL ARCHERof the Daily Telegraph staffNARROWS, Va. -Authorities working to identify the remains of a body found last weekend in Fayette County have ruled out the possibility that the person might be an unidentified man who was reported earlier this year in the New River in Giles County.“We have positively eliminated our man,” Investigator Gary Price of the Giles County Sheriffs Office said. “We were hoping to get some information concerning our missing person, but after talking with the Fayette County investigator, we are sure the body they found is not our man.”Some rafters on the New River discovered a badly decomposed body on the river banks near Cunard, on Saturday. Cunard is about nine miles south of Fayetteville and due east of Oak Hill. Although it would have been highly unlikely for a body to flow over the Bluestone Dam in Hinton, Detective Garland Burke of the Fayette County Sheriffs Department said “we would not eliminate any lead,” at this point.Burke said he was unaware of the possible drowning victim reported Feb. 5, near Narrows. However, after talking with Price, he was able to positively rule out the possible drowning victim Price has been investigating.“I can’t say that I’d rule out a Virginia origin for the body we found,” Burke said. “We are completely at ground zero.”Price spearheaded the search for a man who was reportedly last sighted in the swollen currents of the New River near the Riverview Campgrounds just east of Narrows. Near zero visibility precluded a helicopter search of the river, and the raging waters were too much for boats.
