Negro Denies Knife SlayingtWISE. Va.. .May 29.—{.*)—Wil-! lie B. Lyle, negro auto mechanic . of Kingsport. Tcnn.. took the wit-i ness stand for two hours vester-i day to emphatically deny that he i knew anything about the knife ; slaying of Mrs. Hester Tiller, ofAppalachia.Lyle, on trial for the murder of Mrs. Tiller, who was found in an Appalachia-Nnrton highway culvert the night of March 26. her throat slashed and six stab wounds in her breast, gave a detailed account of his movements during that day.Mrs. Tiller was found, stillalive, about 3:30 that afternoonand died the following day in Appalachia hospital.The negro, under an hour'scross-examination by ProsecutingAttorney M. M. Long, remained steadfast in his story that 45 minutes of the hour between 1:30 and 2:30 p. in. had been spent in Sam McWilliams cafe in Appalachia. It was during this time.Ihe commonwealth contends, thathe picked up Mrs. Tiller, then in a drunken condition, at Osseas cafe and took her to the culvert.A.
