Man Charged With Assault Is Captured in This CityDeputy Sheriff Lew Miller of Wal- !break. He suddenly discovered seven senburg came in last Monday evening armed men beneath a bridge. The firethe city, had taken in hand a Mexican named Belabre who was charged with assault upon a woman at or near Wal-senburg a few weeks ago. Belabre was placed in the local jail over night and the following morning the Huerfano officer started for home with his prisoner.Mr. Miller has had quite an experience as a deputy sheriff of Huerfano county. As a friend and confidante of Sheriff Jeff Farr, he has been attached to the office for several years. During September last he was sent to quell a riot on Seventh street, in Wal* senburg. which culminated in a deadly ; battle resulting in the death of four , striking miners, according to members of Delta C. N. G.. who were there. The attaches of the sheriffs office, includ- ; ing Mr Miller, were indicted for murder. The case is still pending. In April of this year he was sent out to reconnoiter for armed strikers He started with one other before dav-was returned. In another instant he was made the target for a volley of shots from the top of hogback where the national guard had its fight later. Mine guards at the Walsen mine, perceiving the firing, also opened up and again Mr. Miller was the target, the mine defenders mistaking him for a striker. He was now between three fires. To save himself he ran a distance of 150 yards in the open and got into an arroyo where he remained until nearly noon that day before be■ could venture out. #.-Memorial Day Program—May 30George B.
