Award-winning kitchensBuilt-in smoothtop cooking appliances are featured in four of the prlze-w inning residential kitchen designs in the 1974 design competition sponsored by AIKD (American Institute of Kitchen Dealers).The awards, announced at the National Kitchen and Bath Conference in Chicago, were in two categories— those using stock cabinets and those without restriction as to cabinets utilized.' First-place awards in both categories went to • designs featuring built-in glass-ceramic cookfops bv Corning Glass Works. Second and third-place awards in the category without cabinet restrictions also included Corning cooktops, One included the cooktop, built-in double wall ovens and a Counter-Saver work surface, all by Coming.The winning design in the category restricting cabinetry was won by Maurice D. Mitchell, CKD, of Carefree Kitchens^ Inc., Orange, Cal.,The winning design in the category with no cabinet restrictions was by Eugene H. Cohen, Show-Art. Union, N.J. Second place in this category went to Don 0 Connor of Wood Metal Industries, Kreamer, Pennand third place to D. R. Casper of M. A, Peterson, IncWest Hartford, Conn._ These designers used a variety of built-in features' that contribute to the functional appeal of their kitchens. All designers used the Corning smoothtop Gourmet model, with its precise heat control. This particular model has four thermostatically controlled heating elements to assure exact cooking temperatures.Mr. O’Connor’s, kitchen design also featured Cor-, jung s built-in double wall ovens and built-in Couriter-Saver, a glass-ceramic wort: surface, that is ideal for cutting, slicing and, dicing as Well as a place to set hot pots and pans from rangetop or oven.THE ENTRY OF Don O’Conner of Wood Metal Industries, Kreamer, Pa., (top) uses Coming’s cooktop, double wall ovens and a Counter-Saver work surface, all built-ins.
