In 1924, David Gilbert, residing near Bancroft, Kossuth county, accompanied a shipment of hogs to Chicago. The animate were sold and Gilbert retained $100 for his personal use and had the remainder from the sale sent to a bank at Bancroft. He was to have returned home in •* few days, but that was the iafdi of him. All efforts to find the missing man were futile. He car* ried insurance in the sum of $2,-000 in the Equitable Life of Iowa and $3,000 in the RoyaH Insurance company. Mrs. Gilbert* now a resident of Mason City, marie application for the amount after the lapse of seven years, a* provided by law, and the entire amount was paid without contest* The law presumes that after a lapse of seven years a missing person is to be regarded as dead if after that time an honest effort to locate him has failed.
