SLAIN IN CO .D BLOOD.An Entire Family of Four in WisconsinButchered by Burglars. jViboqua, Wis, May 27.—A coroner who «arrived in this city Friday brought meager details of a terrible murder com- J mitted Thursday night in the town of Kick- iapoo, about twelve or fifteen miles southeast of here. The victims are Mr. and Mrs. iieuben Drake, aged and inoffensive people, and their two little grandchildren, who lived with them. The Drakes lived in a quiet and secluded home in the Kickapoo valley. Friday morning' Mr. and Mrs. Drake were found lying on their faces on the floor. They had been shot dead. The chiLdren, aged 4 and 5, were found in bed with their throats cut. Ihe old people evidently had not retired when the murder was committed, for their bodies were clothed. From surrounding circumstances it is believed that the crime was the deed of but one person. Mr. Drake received a small amount of pension money some days ago, and it is supposed that the murderer knew this fact. The house had been ransacked It is probable that the children were awakened from sleep when their grandparents were shot and recognized the murderer, because the only reason he could have for taking their lives was a desire to prevent identification.Officers are now at the scene of the tragedy. They are hopeful that a clew to the murderer will reward their efforts. The Drakes were numbered among the most highly respectable people of Vernon County, where they had been residents forty years.
