MDoc,p Barrett Attempts to Cut the Young Son of His Sister Mrs. Martha Stewart.Unsuccessful in This He Returns to the House and Then Injures His Young Niece.theasprtofhaithethiFehaituthisWsAfter committing a murderous attack on Miss Ethel Stewart, Edward Barrett, I he young lady’s uncle, was placed in jal! and will probably be taken to the insane asylum.Barrett, who goes by the nickname of “Doc,” went home Wednesday evening about f o'clock. Residing in the I same house are his father, Ezekial I Barrett, his sister, Mrs. Martha Stewart, and her two children, daughter and son. On his arrival there he went to the cupboard to gel something and one of the occupants of the room told him that he had better wash his hands first.Barrett seemed to he under the influence of liquor at the time and this remark angered him. He picked up a large butcher knife and saying “this will answer my purpose/” started for the son of Mrs, Stewart. The young man ran into the yard and picking up several stones, threw them at Barrett to keep him off. One of the rocks hit Barrett’s wiist and he dropped the knife, hut Immediately picked it up and returned to the house.He then started toward Miss Ethel Stewart and grabbed her by the hair, began twisting It, pulling part of the scalp loose, perhaps one and one-half inches in length.The girl screamed several times and in a moment County Recorder George Vantue and ex-Marshal Richard Cooper, who reside on South Tompkins street, were in the house. Arriving there they found Mr. Ezekial Barrett standing between Edward Barrett and Miss Stewart. Cooper Instantly grabbed Barrett around the body pinioning his arms to his side and Vanlue relieved the angry man of his knife.They remained at the house until Deputy Marshhl Ben I^aws and Special Officer Nall arrived and they finally succeeded in getting Barret in jail. He will probably he returned to the insane asylum where he has been two or throe times before.Miss Stewart suffered a nervous attach Wednesday night and was In a very serious condition for a few hours but she recovered and was able to oe up town this morning.She is a member of the class which graduates from the SheJbyville high school today.The officers at noon secured the proper paper3 and Barrett will be recommitted to the insane hospital as soon as the authorities at that place are heard from.inlarhada.ertblt;fillmi
