Harassment charges are read to ministerOne count of promoting prostitution and four counts of harassment by telephone were read Wednesday morning to Ellsworth minister Stanley Ross Rule, 29.Rule, who posted $2,000 bond Tuesday on the five misdemeanor charges, returned to District Court Wednesday for Associate Judge Gene Penland's formal reading of the complaint filed against him. The trial will be in June.According to police information, Rule is employed at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Ellsworth.Police say Rule is suspected of making numerous obscene telephone calls to Salina women over the past year. After police received repeated complaints about the calls, a pattern • developed of the caller using the name of a South Salina man and offering $200 for sexual favors, often described by the caller as a “personal service.The four harassment charges allege a June 17 telephone call to Sandra Ann Naumann, 36, 1935 Ingman Road; an Oct. 22, call to Mary Beth Palm, 25, 519 S. 9th; a Nov. 30 call to Trudy Deniee Humphries, 20, 1522 W. Crawford, and an April 16 call to Tonda Lee Rush, 30, 917 Cedar.Efforts to put locks on the phones were foiled since the calls were apparently made long-distance from Ellsworth and locks — which hold the connection so it can be traced — only work within a local telephone system.It was Mrs. Rush, working with police, who helped collar the caller. She agreed to a meeting Monday at herhome and, when the man arrived, called police with a prearranged coded message to let them know he was there.But she had a few anxious moments as the eager suitor declined her offer of a drink and started to get undressed. Fortunately, officers were quick to arrive, finding the man in her bedroom, shoes off, shirt open and pants unbuttoned.That incident led to the fifth charge against Rule, accusing him of promoting prostitution by attempting to entice Mrs. Rush to provide sexual favors for money. Far from being lured by any such offer, however, Mrs. Rush is expected to be a key prosecution witness for her help in clearing the case.'Y' gym members to national clinicFive Salina girls from the Salina YMCA Gymnastics Club and their coach Luke Littrell will be participating in the National Gymnastics Institute Clinic on June 14-18 in Kansas City.The clinic, which will be held at Roekhurst College, features University of Oklahoma coach Paul Ziert and world champion Bart Connor.The girls — Domi Fellers, Stacy Kindlesparger, Jenny Schmitz, Sheila Taggart and Crystel White — will go through 33/fe days of training at the clinic. Parents are invited to attend and observe the Friday morning classes, exhibitions and presentation of awards.
