It way discovered to bo irritating iht» j babyls lower gums. r'FLOOD VICTIMS CLING TO HOMES DESPITED ANGERWaters from Crevasse at McCrea Cover 200 Square Miles.j New Orleans, May 20.—(AP)—Al-Belfa.t, Me., May 2(5.—(AP)— Iceland Wellman, 2d, and Perley Jones, 20, farmhands in the village of W#t Washington, confessed early today, county authorities said, to the brutal murder of Dexter Wentworth, aged Lincolnville farmer, who was clubbed to death in his home last Friday night.Wellman struck Wentworth on the head eight times with a heavy club which he had brought with him for the purp(»e, County Atttorney Clyde It. Chapman announced, following statements from the youths.The only loot obtained was $12 and their victim’s watch, the prisoners declared, although neighbors of Wentworth had told authorities he had a large roll of money on him when last seen. This has not leen found.Suspicion was first directed to Wellman when it was learned that the lt;15-year-old farmer had told neighbors that the youth had robbed him of $100 in a trannsaction last fall and that there had been bad feeling between them.Uiter it was learned that a machine corresponding in appearance to one owned by Wellman had been reported on roads near the lonely Wentworth farmhouse last Friday.Chapman and Sheriff Frank A. Cooper, together with Frank Kogan, i Bangor detective, and Cecil Clay, court stenocranher for Waldo county, went to Rockland yesterday where they found Wellman in tho Knox county jail on a minor charge.Wellman stoutly denied any connection with the murder and asserted he hail been on a fishing trip with Jones, Friday. The authorities then turned their attention to Jones, whose story of the trip presented certain discrepancies that resulted in renewed questioning. He at first disclaimed but finally confessed complicity in the murder. Chapman said, whereupon the party returned to the jail and after further interrogation Wellman, too, admitted the killing.Jones in his confession said he had been persuaded to accompany Wellman to “get some money,” that they had driven to Wentworth’s home where both had engaged him in conversation and that while the farmer WAS looking down Wellman had struck him on the head with e. heavy board which he had brought in his automobile.The first blow only stunned Wentworth and Wellman added seven more, Jones asserted. County Attorney Chapman said that anyone of the blows was sufficient to fractur* the skull.Both men were formally charged with murder, Wellman being held in the Knox county jail, while Jones was brought here.Wentworth is to be buried today at Searsmont at the home of a son, Thomas.
