To the Editor...#Dear Editor:Until now, very little has been said publicly to commend those responsible for the Action Now Rally. This event was a first for Corsicana, and with the untried there are sometimes problems.There have been several individuals who have criticized the program, particularly its length and the comments made by Mr. Dane Edwards. The problem of too much program can be solved very easily. Undoubtedly, any future program of this type can be shortened to hold the interest of all participants.But to the problem that caused the most comment, Mr. Dane Edwards was here speaking in behalf of United We Stand, or so we thought. True, he did represent that group earlier in the year when he spoke at the annual Jaycee Banquet. He was hired as a fill-in for Murphy Martin to present a speech approved by United We Stand, but he is not now, nor has he ever been a part of their staff.Ixcal comments about Mr. Edward’s remarks at the rally have ranged from “highlypolitical” to “subversive.” In my opinion, they are inappropriate and inaccurate. Perhaps the only answer to criticism here is that this man was unsuspectingly asked to speak because of an excellent address previously delivered to a group of our community’s leadership— without the approval of United We Stand.Despite any problems or criticisms that may have arisen, I think we owe much to Joe Evans of the Daily Sun for his efforts in putting this rally together. We owe our thanks also to Coach Donnie Duncan of Navarro Junior College for the fine group of athletes he secured for the program. We should commend John White for his excellent job as M-C for the event.Every speaker stimulated our thinking-even the one with whom we disagreed. Our young people responded enthusiastically and respectfully. I personally am very grateful for what took place at Tiger Field.Your truly, Wm. H. Harrison, Jr.
