Although the larger of the boys was a half heavier than the ex-cop, he met them one at a time and sent them sprawling. They came at him again, and in this second round, Rogers stepped off the sidewalk and sprained his ankle. The brothers were soon subdued, however and locked up for the night. In court the next morning Giben admitted that he had been drinking, and without that probably no trouble would have started. The younger brother had not been drinking and had nothing to do with starting the trouble. Mayor Lawton lined Giben $15 and Dave $11.
