If M mv* v if •• w ww 0 -- ^were publicly made against the auditor of Harrison county. The Commissioners’ Court was not as prompt and vigorous in investigating the truth of these accusations as the “ White Caps ” thought necessary. The result was that) after due warning, 200 armed men and mounted((Regulators,” arranged in the regulation ** White Cap” uniform, entered the county seat, Cory-don, fired their revolvers, and, after parading the town for over two hours, made public proclamation, through their captain, that if the Commissioners did not perform their duty in the case promptly and thoroughly, every derelict officer would be taken out and whipped. The warning was heeded; the affairs of the auditor’s office were investigated. It appears to be impossible to punish these men. The organization's membership is s.q extensive* and. the order has become such a terror to the people that it is. absolutely impossible to select a jury among whom will not be foundeither an active White Cap or a, sympathizer. To obtain evidence against the order or pne of its members is impracticable; to convict a White Cap by any ordinary process of law is declared to he absolutely impossible.
