DOINGS IN COMMON PLEAS;Willay and Elizabeth Shaw Takan to Columbus - Divorces Granted and Passed Bottom Fell Out of Damage Case.The jury In the cane of William i Joins. indicted for the killing ,»f Fred Whitfield at Broadwell, returned a verdict of manslaughter yesterday morning, and Goins was sentenced to the penitentiary for ten years.The murder occurred on Sunday afternoon. April at at the l.nme «f Joseph Moms at whoso homo Whitfield, Goins and several others had coo un-gat ed and were spending the day in drinking. (Join* and Whitfield engaged in a qnarrel which led to an encounter, and Goins drawing his revolver fired one shot, striking his victim in the head, canning instant death. Goins was arrested and taken before JnntieeHprigga who bound him over to court on the eliarge of murder The grand jury returned an indictment of murder in the second degree. His trial was begun Monday morning and the case was given to the jnry Tuesday noon. The de'mdaat was represented by I M. Foster and O. D. Hopkins. Thirty-five witnesses were examined. From noon Tuesday until late ToMdary night the jnry wrestledwith the case when an agreement wasreached. The verdict of manslaughter was re tamed to the court yesterday morning. Goins was brought into the coart room at h o'clock terdav morning and given a scnten of 10 years. He will fe taken to 1 penitentiary today by Sheriff Murphy. (Joins is about 4 years of »g« and has a large family.
